Chiefs Fan Who Tackled Suspected Gunman Hailed as a Hero: He ‘Risked His Life’

A football fan whom observers called a “Good Samaritan” was arrested by a gunman before police arrived at the tail end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade that turned deadly Wednesday. is credited with tackling the suspect and saving his life.

A viral video shows the alleged gunman sprinting through a crowd before being suddenly tackled to the ground by a man. The gunman briefly stood up before another man tackled him back to the ground. That’s when the first man attacks the suspected gunman again. The heroic duo lay on top of the alleged gunman until police arrived seconds later.

Trey Filter was the first to tackle this guy. His wife, Casey, then secured his gun.

One person was killed and at least 21 injured, police said. At least nine of the injured were children. Three people were arrested.

“One guy was yelling and saying, ‘Stop him, get him,’ you know, ‘tackle him.’ And he was just running away,” Filter told Omaha’s KETV. “And out of nowhere, I heard this guy yelling, and I was like, ‘Okay, well, here I am.’ And I just, I never thought about it – it was just a reaction. I didn’t hesitate, I just did it. So I went to tackle him and the other gentleman did the same. And then I tackled him. As I tackled him, I saw his weapon fall out of his hand or fall out of his sleeve. [saw] It hit the ground and I thought: Oh, you know, I have to beat this guy. ”

Filter added: “Me and another good Samaritan did that, and we held him down. And it seemed like an eternity, but we probably held him down for about 30 seconds. And me and another gentleman are yelling at the people who are going, you know, “Where are the police?”

Police arrived about 30 minutes later.

Filter, a Chiefs fan, took his wife and children to the parade.

“I don’t know if I knocked him out when I tackled him or what, but I squeezed him so hard that for all I know he may have passed out all the time. No. I just started tapping him in the ribs,” Filter said. new york post.

Filter, who lives near Wichita, took her children from school to participate in the parade.

“I literally just wanted to give the kids good marks,” he said. “It was unfortunate that we had to pull the kids out of school, but this is a unique situation in Kansas. We said, ‘Let’s go to this.’ We went last year. I just wanted dad points. I’m so glad we’re not in the same boat as those guys. ”

Filter, who runs an asphalt company, was hailed as a hero on social media.

“A #Chiefs fan risked his life to confront one of the gunmen and prevent others from being hurt. Just heroic,” one person wrote.

“The Chiefs need to give the guys who tackled one of their shooters in the Super Bowl a ring and a ticket for life, dude,” said another. I have written. “They represent the best of Kansas City and the Chiefs kingdom.”

The person killed at the parade was identified as Lisa Lopez Galván, who worked as a DJ in the area and was a mother of two, friends said. Associated Press As a devout Catholic and devoted mother.
