Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker gave the commencement address at a private university in Kansas over the weekend. The three-time Super Bowl champion covered several topics during his roughly 20-minute speech at Benedictine College.
At one point during his speech, he encouraged graduating women to embrace their “vocation” as “housewives.” Butker also attacked Pride Month, which is a particularly important time of year for the LGBTQ+ community.
“I think it’s you, the women, who have told the most diabolical lies,” Butker said.
“While some of you may go on to successful careers in the world, I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into the world. I can say that my beautiful wife, Isabel, will be the first to say that her life really began when she began fulfilling her duties as a wife and mother. said.

Butker also criticized President Joe Biden’s positions on abortion and his administration’s COVID-19 policies.

In a statement to People magazine, the NFL said Butker spoke in a “personal capacity” during his speech.

Butker’s speech to the Benedictine community was not the first time he publicly expressed his personal beliefs. He returned to his alma mater last year and gave advice to his graduates.
“I don’t know the root of this problem, but I can at least offer one controversial antidote that I believe will have a lasting impact for generations to come. It’s about building a family,” Butker, Georgia Tech’s Class of 2023, said.
