Chiefs’ Isaiah Buggs, already facing animal cruelty charges, arrested for domestic violence/burglary

Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs is once again facing criminal charges this offseason.

Buggs, who already had two outstanding warrants for his arrest for misdemeanor counts of second-degree cruelty to dogs, was arrested Sunday on a domestic violence/theft charge and booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Prison Records.

Records show bail was set at $5,000 and it is unclear whether he has been released from jail.

Buggs, 27, turned himself in late last month in Tuscaloosa on charges of animal cruelty after two dogs “that were extremely malnourished, emaciated and neglected” were found in the backyard of a rental home he was staying at earlier this year.

Reporter, WBRC FOX6 Brian Henry tried to reach Buggs for comment after he turned himself in and posted bail, but Buggs put his hand over Henry’s camera and said, “Stay away from me,” before leaving the bail bondsman’s truck.

Representatives for the Chiefs and Buggs did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital at the time.

Mr. Buggs’ lawyer said his client’s arrest was part of a “disruptive campaign” to force the closure of a hookah lounge he owns in the city.

Buggs is accused of leaving a white and gray pit bull and a black Rottweiler without food or water in the backyard of his Tuscaloosa home. The pit bull was allowed to roam free on a screened porch, but the Rottweiler was kept in a metal cage exposed to direct sunlight.

According to civil documents obtained by Tuscaloosa Patch, police received a tip about a dog being left on a porch on March 28. Witnesses said Buggs had moved out of the home on March 19 due to over $3,100 in back rent.

The pit bull was euthanized in April, and the Rottweiler is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Metro Animal Shelter.

The Chiefs had a tumultuous offseason, with some high-profile run-ins with police, most notably the car accident in Dallas involving second-year wide receiver Ruchy Rice, who was accused of punching a photographer at a Dallas nightclub but was not charged.

Buggs was a sixth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers out of the University of Alabama in 2019 and served as a member of the Chiefs’ practice squad prior to the playoff run, during which he again won a Super Bowl title.
