Kansas City Chiefs’ Josh Simmons Returns After Absence
Josh Simmons, an offensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs, has finally spoken out after missing 22 days and four games. His return comes after he left the team unexpectedly just hours before a matchup with the Detroit Lions in Week 6.
At a press conference, the 22-year-old rookie declined to share specifics regarding his absence, emphasizing, “Out of respect, we would like to keep this matter internal. I know everyone wants to know, but I want to keep it to myself.”
He did take a moment to express gratitude to the Chiefs for their support during this challenging time. “This game showed me how much love this team and city has for me, and I can’t wait to give it back to them,” he remarked.
Upon his return, Simmons participated in a game against the Denver Broncos—a tough re-entry, particularly since he faced Nick Bonitto, one of the NFL’s leading pass rushers. Although he admitted he felt a bit rusty, he noted, “I think my teammates that I was with all week helped me and brushed it off.” Bonitto, by the way, ranks third in the NFL with 9.5 sacks this season but didn’t manage to sack Simmons during their matchup.
Simmons was able to keep up with his training while he was away, stating, “I was making sure I was working out, making sure my legs were strong, making sure my nervous system was awake. I was ready to play.” His eagerness to get back into action was palpable, as he shared, “I was away from the game, so I was itching to get back and compete (for my teammates).”
The Chiefs’ recent loss to the Broncos dropped their record to 5-5, putting them outside the playoff picture for now. Looking ahead, they’ll face the Indianapolis Colts, who currently lead the AFC South, on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
