Chiefs narrowly escape another lowly opponent with bizarre ending against Raiders to clinch playoff spot

That's not necessarily a good thing for the Kansas City Chiefs, but they somehow found a way to do it again.

The Chiefs blew a 13-point lead and defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 19-17 on Black Friday.

Less than a week after needing a field goal as time expired to defeat the three-win Carolina Panthers, the Chiefs won in bizarre fashion on Friday.

After a two-minute warning and no timeouts, they trailed by two points, but the Raiders quickly got within field goal range. But with 15 seconds left, rookie center Jackson Powers-Johnson snapped the ball too early, and the Chiefs recovered.

The Raiders claimed this was a false start, invalidating the fumble. However, the referee ruled it an illegal shift and the Chiefs denied the penalty, giving them the ball and giving the Chiefs the victory.

The Chiefs led 16-3 late in the third quarter, but the Raiders never gave up. After Aidan O'Connell hit Brock Bowers for a 33-yard touchdown, forcing a three-and-out, O'Connell hit Tre Tucker for a 58-yard score. The PAT gave them a 17-16 lead early in the fourth.

Kansas City made its fourth field goal of the game to regain the lead, but the Raiders were moving the ball again in the final minutes. On fourth-and-11 with 2:21 left, the Raiders tried for a 58-yard field goal, but it was a no-go.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll wasn't worried about his job after his team was eliminated from the playoffs for the first time.

But the Chiefs gave the ball back to Las Vegas after a two-minute warning after the Raiders took a timeout and threw the ball at third and second base. However, the Raiders marched on and were soon inside the 40-yard line.

With his touchdown pass to Justin Watson, Patrick Mahomes surpassed legendary Len Dawson as the Chiefs' all-time leader in touchdown passes. Mahomes currently has 238 passing touchdowns in just under seven full seasons.

With this victory, the Chiefs qualified for the playoffs and will play postseason football for the 10th straight year. They improved to 11-1, tying the Detroit Lions for the best record in football.

Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright completed 4 of 4 kicks, while Raiders' Daniel Carlson missed three shots, all going well beyond 50 yards. It was also Kansas City's ninth one-possession win of the year.
