Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating probation, and things may worsen.

Rashee Rice's former girlfriend claims he was abusive.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Lachie Rice has landed in jail yet again during the NFL offseason. This time, it’s for violating probation stemming from a reckless driving incident last year, which is now affecting the 2024 offseason.

Rice’s troubles seem to be stacking up. On Tuesday, he was sentenced after testing positive for THC, which breached a plea deal he made in July 2025 that included five years of probation and a 30-day jail term within that period.

He was taken to the Dallas County Jail in Texas and is set to serve his 30 days, with a release date scheduled for June 16th.

The terms of his violation mean he will go to prison for the time he was initially sentenced, not additional time. Last year, he had to pay over $115,000 in restitution to a victim involved in the accident.

As a result, Rice will miss the Chiefs’ upcoming OTAs and mandatory minicamp. This oversight was first reported by KSHB 41 News and later confirmed by other outlets.

Neither the NFL nor the Chiefs have made any comments regarding the situation.

For Rice, conditions could potentially worsen. This latest violation may lead to another examination under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

He previously received a six-game suspension for an earlier driving-related incident. Interestingly, it seems like he managed to negotiate a lighter suspension than what was initially expected. Apparently, the NFL was considering a suspension that could have been longer, but an agreement was eventually reached to limit his absence to no more than a month.

This new personal conduct inquiry might add to the games he sits out when the 2026 regular season kicks off.

For the Chiefs, things aren’t looking so great either. While Rice has had a decent career with 156 catches in his first three NFL seasons, his pattern of troublesome behavior raises big questions about his reliability. There’s a chance the team may fine him for missing mandatory minicamp. Last year, he admitted guilt to charges related to causing serious injury in a crash and racing on the highway, both serious felonies.

Rice hasn’t been available for comment since going to jail on Tuesday.
