Child fatally shot by 4-year-old cousin was in Florida to celebrate his 3rd birthday.

A tragic incident occurred during a family vacation in Florida when a toddler, Brayden Tennyson, was accidentally shot and killed by his four-year-old cousin. This heartbreaking event took place just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, as the family was celebrating Brayden’s upcoming third birthday.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reported that the young boy was shot after his cousin accessed an unsecured and unholstered handgun left in the car where they were playing. Family members expressed their sorrow, stating, “There are no words to describe the heartbreak our family is experiencing.” They started a fundraiser to help bring Brayden’s body back home to Georgia.

What should have been a joyful trip to Orlando turned into a profound tragedy. The family had traveled from Louisville, Georgia to Cove East in Kissimmee, anticipating a day filled with birthday festivities on Tuesday.

“His birthday is today,” Brayden’s aunt, Dalfournia Tennyson, shared, reflecting on the bittersweet situation.

Described as a “really sweet kid” who was friendly and cheerful, Brayden had a zest for life, constantly eager to play and enjoy his favorite snacks, like gummy fruit snacks and cookies. “He would say, ‘Auntie, I want a snack!'” his aunt recounted.

Brayden’s sister remembered him as “very smart” and “a very happy baby.” She recalled the joy he brought as he eagerly welcomed his family home from school, always waiting at the door to greet them. “He always loved to eat all my food,” she added, reflecting on his playful spirit.

Unfortunately, while the adults were checking into the rental property, the firearm belonging to Brayden’s mother remained in the vehicle with the two boys. According to authorities, the four-year-old cousin discovered the gun and the family was outside when they heard the gunfire.

Brayden was rushed to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando but, tragically, was pronounced dead shortly after. The situation was further complicated when a family member experienced chest pains due to the stress of the incident.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate, with possible charges pending after a review by the State Attorney’s Office. This devastating event leaves a family grappling with an unimaginable loss.
