Missing Girl Seen with Convicted Rapist
A convicted child rapist who managed to avoid prison time due to left-leaning prosecutors has been spotted traveling with a missing girl in Virginia this week, according to police reports.
Seventeen-year-old Autumn Van Zandt and 39-year-old Ronnie Leal have been unaccounted for since Tuesday. The Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD) mentioned that they “might be trying to leave the state.” The public is urged to assist in locating her. Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano previously reached a plea deal that allowed Leal to be released in 2022 after he confessed to sexually abusing another minor.
Descano’s office has not responded to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation. Having been appointed in 2020, Descano has faced two elections since 2019, receiving significant campaign contributions from a PAC affiliated with George Soros, which has raised concerns about lenient crime policies.
According to FOX5, Leal had admitted to raping an 11-year-old the previous year but was allowed to plead guilty to lesser misdemeanor charges in 2022. He received a one-year prison sentence that was set to conclude upon completing his time served. Originally facing serious charges, including aggravated sodomy, Leal’s case was reportedly marked by a previous incident when he was already on probation.
Descano’s chief of staff expressed to FOX 5 that the victim struggled to provide consistent details about the assault during her testimony. Afterward, they consulted with the victim’s family, who agreed that a plea deal was the appropriate route considering the circumstances of the case.
Now, Leal is again under the scrutiny of Fredericksburg authorities. The missing girl is described as standing 5-foot-7 and weighing around 135 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. She was last seen in a black top and jean shorts, carrying a red handbag, and has heart-shaped tattoos on both sides of her lower back. The police have requested any information, regardless of how trivial it might seem, regarding her current whereabouts.
