Authorities say they found a horrifying video showing a Seattle nurse being murdered by her drug-addled boyfriend as they walked home together from the grocery store.
According to the King County Prosecutor’s Office, Andy Chu, 26, confessed to killing his girlfriend, Zoe Suyun He, who was visiting him from Hawaii for the weekend.
Prosecutors said Chu twisted her neck and forced her underwater in the bathtub. An autopsy revealed he had inflicted blunt force trauma on her head, face, neck, chest, limbs and had a golf ball lodged in her throat. KOMO News reported..
Neighborhood security cameras captured Chu and the victim entering the townhome on Aug. 9 carrying groceries.
The next day, Chew was seen on camera leaving the house alone and retrieving something wrapped in what appeared to be a towel from under his shirt as he left the house. Fox 13 reported..
His friends then took him to hospital because he was “behaving erratically,” according to prosecutors.
On August 10, police and firefighters found He’s disfigured body in Chew’s flooded townhome after neighbours reported water overflowing from the house.
The woman was found on her back, bloody and with a cut to her throat, “with an ice pack placed against her throat and a small head support block placed behind her neck,” according to prosecutors.
Police arrested Chu at the University of Washington Medical Center on Sunday after he allegedly groped the nurse’s breasts and “attempted to pull her head down by the back of her neck.”
Chu was arrested at the hospital and told police he had taken two Molly pills and smoked marijuana while with He.
“I thought maybe I had killed my girlfriend,” Chu told police.
The suspect told police he “remembers choking her, twisting her neck and holding her under the water in the bathtub.” He believes he broke her neck and “remembers seeing blood coming out of her nose.”
Chu then dragged her out of the bathtub and attempted to resuscitate her using bizarre means, including “sprinkling acai powder all over her body” and “putting what appeared to be a golf ball in her mouth to immobilize her jaw,” according to the documents.
Police believe Chew was killed sometime between August 9 and 10, the day she last left her home.
Chu told authorities he had been dating He since January, that she had just arrived from Hawaii, and that the two attended the same high school. According to KHON.
Officials said He, who is from China, worked at the Hawaii State Capitol during the 2022 legislative session.
Chu is charged with first-degree murder and first-degree assault for the attack on the nurse.
Bail was set at $5 million and his next court appearance is scheduled for August 28.
