A New York Police Department officer was fired in February after a Federal Bureau of Investigation investigation found he had potential ties to the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese Communist Party activities.New York Post report.
The NYPD has fired Lt. Steven Lee after 20 years on the force for making false statements and violating reporting requirements, according to internal disciplinary records obtained by the police department.documentation.

The news agency found that Li helped a Chinese foreign agent, Sun Haiying, contact a U.S.-based woman who was accused of embezzling from a state-owned enterprise in China. The Chinese Communist Party alleges that the woman, known only as “Huang,” stole the money to buy property in China. The NYPD said:document He noted that the Chinese government had seized the women’s property in China during the ongoing conflict.
Ying was assigned to Operation Fox Hunt, a program launched by the Chinese government in 2014 to deport Chinese fugitives. As part of that mission, Ying was allegedly sent to the United States to pressure Huang to resolve his dispute with the Chinese Communist Party.

The documents show Mr Lee met with the woman several times, but he claimed he was simply acting as a “mediator” between her and Mr Ying to “help resolve the issue”.
“Because Mr Li is a police officer, a highly respected position in the Chinese community, he believed that with Mr Sun as an intermediary, the woman would be more willing to discuss her case,” the document said.
According to documents, Li, Ying and Huang met at a restaurant on December 1, 2019. Li introduced the two and then allegedly left the room to discuss the altercation. During the meeting, Li texted someone on WeChat, saying Huang “seemed a little emotional,” according to NYPD documents.
Li maintained that he knew Huang from local events but never acted as a CCP agent. He was not criminally charged. Following an investigation by the NYPD, the department concluded that Li never pressured Huang or acted as a CCP agent. However, Li was found guilty of making false statements and failing to report.
Lee did not respond to Documented’s request for comment.
Sun was indicted in 2022 on a charge of conspiring to act as an agent of a foreign government without notifying the attorney general.Department of Justice.
Regarding the charges, Assistant Attorney General for National Security Matthew G. Olsen said at the time, “This case is yet another example of China’s [People’s Republic of China’s] They have demonstrated disregard for the rule of law and are engaged in efforts to coerce and intimidate targeted individuals on our shores as part of Operation Fox Hunt.”
“The defendants traveled to the United States and allegedly employed others, including sworn law enforcement officers, to spy on and intimidate the victims. Such conduct is criminal and reprehensible,” Olsen added.
