Chinese startup Astribot has officially unveiled its latest creation, the S1 humanoid robot, with a video showcasing its impressive range of functions for the home, including making waffles, feeding cats, serving tea, and even playing basketball. This announcement comes after the robot was first shown in April, when only the upper half of its body was revealed, leaving many curious to see its complete design.

Unique design perfect for home projects
Unlike most humanoid robots that focus on bipedal locomotion for industrial applications, S1 is designed for household chores. It has a wheeled base and one flexible “leg” that bends at the knee, making it more reliable and easier to set up. Although the video shows it plugged in, this robot doesn't run on batteries alone.

Humanoid robot specifications
The S1's top speed is approximately 22.4 feet per second. Each arm has seven degrees of freedom and can handle loads of up to 22 pounds. Instead of a traditional humanoid hand, the S1 is equipped with a two-fingered gripper that can perform a variety of complex tasks. The S1's AI-driven capabilities enable it to learn and adapt, allowing it to perform household chores like vacuuming, teaching martial arts, and even playing with pets remotely using virtual reality goggles.

Demonstration and learning possibilities
In its announcement video, the company claims that all footage is real, recorded at normal speed, and that no remote control was used. While the S1's features are impressive, the company has yet to provide detailed information about its hardware specs or the AI learning methodology used to train the robot. We reached out to Astribot for this information but did not receive a response by deadline.
Commercial Release and Real-World Testing
While the demonstration of the robot's capabilities is impressive, it's important to keep in mind that the video showcases carefully selected tasks performed in a controlled environment. The real-world performance and adaptability of the S1 has yet to be tested, raising the question of how well it would work in everyday situations.
