Chip and Joanna Gaines Enhance Their Fitness Journey
Chip and Joanna Gaines are stepping up their fitness routine together. Recently, during an episode of a podcast hosted by Don Saladino, they talked about how they began working out as a couple. Joanna remarked on how, despite knowing each other for nearly 25 years, they never engaged in fitness activities as a team, which she found surprising.
She reflected, “I think I started thinking, ‘How on earth have we never done this before?’ We never really discussed it. Chip was training for a marathon while I was pregnant.” It was a bit of a lightbulb moment for them: “We thought, ‘Why not start this fitness journey together?’ It’s not something we ever seriously talked about.” Chip echoed her thoughts, mentioning that over the years, Joanna had entered their lives but they hadn’t participated in fitness activities together.
Joanna also acknowledged the need to focus more on her health, especially with her parents facing health challenges. “My dad recently had knee replacement surgery, and it makes me think, ‘I’m at that age now.'” She felt it was crucial to make positive lifestyle changes, rather than just hoping to stay healthy.
Initially, they began working out with Saladino in January 2025. Joanna shared her journey on social media, posting about her fitness milestones, including her struggles with push-ups due to a previous back injury. She celebrated her progress, saying, “A few months later, I did 50 push-ups! I’m proud of that.” It was a big step for her—a reminder of how she had let excuses hold her back from exercising for too long.
During their conversation with Saladino, they found that the hardest part about being active as adults often involves comparing themselves to their younger selves. Joanna felt that this urge could be motivating, yet sometimes distracting. She said her work with Saladino helped her shift her focus toward personal growth instead of looking back. Chip added that it was indeed tough when you had once been naturally skilled at activities, but now faced challenges.
The Gaineses’ story emphasizes not just the journey of getting fit, but also the importance of support in a relationship. They seem to be discovering something new about each other, and perhaps, about themselves along the way.
