Chip Gaines and the Waco Pastor Address Ongoing Criticism of the New Magnolia Series

Reality TV Stars Speak Out on Marriage and LGBTQ+ Representation

Rev. Chip and Joanna Gaines, known for their popular HGTV show “Fixer Upper,” have addressed their church’s views on marriage, family, and sexuality following the recent inclusion of gay couples in Chip’s new series, “Back to the Frontier.” This topic has prompted thousands of questions from viewers about their beliefs surrounding marriage and family dynamics.

In a video posted from Waco, Texas, Rev. Jimmy Sebert, a senior pastor, stated, “We’ve been clear about this for the past 25 years.” He continued to emphasize that the church holds certain beliefs firmly regarding these sensitive subjects.

“The world is broken. Many people are searching for understanding about their identities, about God, and about what’s happening around them,” he shared. Sebert believes clarity is found through scripture and the teachings of Jesus.

He reiterated that according to the Bible, God created two genders—male and female—and defined marriage as a union exclusively between one man and one woman. Regarding LGBTQ+ issues, he noted the importance of how Christians navigate these conversations, emphasizing that “God’s Word and truth are our highest authority.”

“Regardless of our feelings or our personal challenges, we look to Jesus and His teachings to guide us in our lives,” he added.

Chip Gaines has recently faced criticism after “Back to the Frontier” featured gay couples, including Jason and Hannah and their son. His response to the backlash touched on the complex relationship between modern Christianity and societal issues, highlighting the need for open dialogue.

“It’s important to talk, ask questions, and listen. There’s a lot to learn about modern American Christian culture,” he commented. He lamented that many non-believers encounter hostility from those identifying as Christians.

Chip also addressed a tweet expressing sadness over the negative reactions. He stated, “I appreciate thoughtful, constructive feedback. It’s vital for growth.” He encouraged others to focus on love and understanding rather than judgment, reminding everyone that compassion should be at the forefront of their actions.

“If we admire one another, let’s embrace that. Ultimately, it’s not about judging but about loving each other,” he concluded.
