Rep. Chip Roy Discusses Immigration Pause on Fox News
Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), who is running for Texas attorney general, appeared on “The Will Cain Show” on Fox News and reiterated his call for a “pause” on immigration.
Roy compared his idea to immigration policies from the 1920s aimed at restoring “sovereignty.”
During the discussion, host Will Cain asked, “Let’s start with the why. Why do you feel it’s necessary to suspend all immigration?”
Roy responded, “I’m glad to see you on board. Merry Christmas. You made your point earlier. What we’re dealing with is a result of the radical left wanting open borders and not being honest about it. You’re echoing their message. We’ve tried various approaches to handle the situation. But reality is, under Biden and Mayorkas, we have wide open borders, and legal channels are being misused.” He highlighted issues like the misuse of H-1B and diversity visas, and chain immigration involving those on welfare, which, he argued, has long been denied by some.
He continued, “When we proposed the Big Beautiful Act, we intended to implement work requirements and prevent illegal immigrants from accessing Medicaid and welfare. They dismissed those concerns, yet they are occurring. Even Gavin Newsom has acknowledged this. There are 51.5 million foreign-born individuals in the U.S., representing 16 percent of the population— the highest since the early 1900s. In 1920, we imposed a pause, which lasted about 40 years, allowing a degree of assimilation. The immigrants then wanted to assimilate. In contrast, many today, particularly from some regions, do not seem inclined to do so.”
Roy added, “Many hardworking individuals from Mexico and Central America wish to come to the U.S. and pursue their dreams while assimilating, yet a corporate system seems to be pushing millions into our country through misused H-1B and diversity visas. We really need to pause and reconsider these issues.”
