Last night, Speaker Mike Johnson announced the long-awaited policy. 1,547 pages A short-term funding bill that was said to be announced by the end of last week.
Republican lawmakers and DOGE's Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have fiercely opposed many of the bill's additional provisions, which would only add to the nation's already mounting deficit.
Adding to the frustration is the fact that Congress is currently being forced to vote on a bill that it doesn't even have time to properly consider before the Dec. 20 deadline, and if the bill is not passed, In other words, the government would be shut down a few days before Christmas.
One of the bill's biggest critics is Texas Congressman Chip Roy.
“We hate this bill. This bill is not great,” he said. Glenn Beck.
Still, the Freedom Caucus pushed back by asking for three simple things:
1. Agree to follow the 72-hour rule, which gives members “72 hours to consider a bill.”
2. Vote to “return non-defense spending to pre-COVID-19/2020 levels.” This would “save $110 billion” and supplement the bill's disaster relief spending.
3. Prohibition on sale of border wall materials.
“That’s all we asked for and we didn’t get it,” Roy said. “This is not just about leadership being exposed; whole Republican Conference. people need to understand that. ”
