Chipotle Expands to Mexico with First Restaurant

Chipotle Mexican Grill has made its debut in Mexico this month, marking a significant step in the fast-casual chain’s international expansion plans.

The new location opened on July 16 in San Pedro Garza García, located within the Monterrey metropolitan area, and is run in collaboration with restaurateur Althea, as detailed in a Chipotle press release.

“We approach Mexico with a genuine respect for its culinary heritage, committed to offering a top-notch Chipotle experience,” stated Chipotle CEO Scott Boatwright.

He added, “Our research indicates a demand for high quality, fresh food that allows for customization and convenience—qualities we pride ourselves on.”

Plans are already in place for more stores in Nuevo Leon later this year, with a move into Mexico City scheduled for 2027.

This establishment represents the first opening under a development agreement forged between the two companies back in April 2025.

According to Chipotle, Althea manages thousands of restaurants across various quick-service, coffee shop, and full-service brands in multiple countries throughout Latin America and Europe.

The new venue features Chipotle’s traditional menu, including customizable options like burritos, bowls, tacos, salads, and quesadillas, with many ingredients sourced locally.

The Monterrey area was chosen due to its “robust economy, expanding population,” and its significance as a major business hub.

“Bringing Chipotle to Mexico aligns with our growth and diversification strategy,” said Arcee CEO Christian Greer. “This iconic brand offers a unique value proposition that has appealed to millions globally, and we believe it will find a warm reception among consumers here.”

As of March 31, Chipotle boasted over 4,100 locations worldwide.

Looking ahead, the restaurant chain aims to open between 350 and 370 new restaurants in 2026. Its global presence already includes locations in Canada, Europe, and the Middle East, with further expansions planned in South Korea and Singapore.

Requests for additional comments from Chipotle have not been addressed as of now.
