Ego Nwodim, 37, has announced her departure from Saturday Night Live ahead of its 51st season, marking the end of a seven-year journey that started with her debut in Season 44. The news has drawn heartfelt reactions from her former co-stars.

Cecily Strong, a long-time cast member from 2011 to 2022, was among the first to respond, expressing her admiration in a comment on Nwodim’s Instagram post. “I just texted you, but I’m also loud and proud. It was an honor and a complete joy to work with you,” she said, praising her as one of the best collaborators she has had.

Chloe Feynman, who joined SNL in 2019, also shared her sentiments. She affectionately referred to Nwodim as “one of my best friends” and added playful goat emojis in her supportive message.

Punky Johnson welcomed Nwodim to the “outside” world, referring to the many cast members who have left after the show’s remarkable 50-year run. “You did your duty… Now let’s play,” she said. Molly Kearney, who exited two seasons ago, chimed in as well, celebrating Nwodim’s impact. “You’re a star and you made your mark huge,” she said, encouraging her to enjoy the next chapter.

Nwodim’s announcement, shared via an emotional Instagram post, reflects her bittersweet feelings about leaving the show. She described it as a challenge to know when to say goodbye after seven unforgettable seasons. She expressed her gratitude to Lorne Michaels for his mentorship, noting how much she learned during her time on the show. “Now invite me to your wedding!” she humorously wrapped up her message.

Her exit follows a wave of departures, including Devon Walker, Emile Wakim, Michael Longfellow, and Heidi Gardner, who left shortly after rumors of a cast shakeup surfaced. Walker was the first to announce his departure, reflecting on their shared experiences, both good and challenging. Wakim echoed similar sentiments, calling the experience rewarding despite its difficulties. Longfellow expressed his regret in leaving, calling it the best three years of his life so far.

As for Gardner, she confirmed her exit after eight seasons, although details regarding her departure remain limited. Insiders suggest a need for a fresh cast dynamic, with a source stating, “It’s time for a new cast.”

Bowen Yang, preparing for the upcoming season, addressed Gardner’s exit in a recent podcast. He acknowledged her contributions, saying, “You’re one of the greats. You’ll bring down history.” He also paid tribute to the other exiting cast members, calling them remarkable comedians.
