Chris Brown was taken into custody in the UK on Thursday after an alleged attack at a London nightclub in 2023. While the Metropolitan Police did not specifically identify the 36-year-old rapper, they confirmed his arrest at a hotel in Manchester, stating they had detained someone accused of inflicting serious physical harm.
Under British law, the names of suspects cannot be disclosed upon arrest to protect the integrity of a potential trial.
Reports indicate that music producer Abe Diaw claimed in February 2023 that he was hospitalized following an “unprovoked attack” at Tape Nightclub. Diaw reportedly said that Brown struck him with a bottle and then punched and kicked him while he was down. As a result of the incident, Diaw has filed a lawsuit against Brown for $16 million.
At the time of the alleged attack, Brown was in the UK for a tour. He is slated to go back on the road in June and July for a special tour celebrating 20 years in the music industry.
Brown’s representatives have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding this situation.
This isn’t the first time Brown has had legal issues; back in 2009, he was arrested for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, and pleaded guilty to felony charges. Moreover, he faced accusations of sexual assault in October 2024 while on a yacht with Sean “Diddy” Combs, as detailed in a documentary titled *Chris Brown: A History of Violence*.
In January, Brown filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. for $500 million, arguing that he was wrongfully labeled an abuser.
