Former Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Thursday accused Detroit Lions head coach Dan of inflating the score in last Sunday's 47-9 loss to his beloved football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He lashed out at Campbell.
“That's Dan Campbell. He has no education, never has,” Christie said Thursday. About “Mad Dog Unleashed” Chris Russo's radio show. “So, it's okay. Look, Dan Campbell, that's his personality, and what happens comes back.”
The Lions had a pretty easy lopsided win against the Cowboys, dominating in every phase. Still, Campbell turned to his bag of play-calling tricks to add to the victory.

The Lions executed three trick plays against the Cowboys, including a hook on offensive tackle Penei Sewell and a lateral shot, giving them a 37-9 lead. After a controversial loss to the Cowboys in the final month of last season, Campbell told his players before the game that he was going to “unload the clip.”
In Week 17 of the 2023 season, the Cowboys defeated the Lions 20-19 after the officials mismanaged a two-point conversion at the end of the game. The Lions converted the pass, but Taylor Decker was penalized for an illegal touch after officials incorrectly announced Dan Skipper as an eligible receiver.

Christie suggested that Campbell might be taking out his frustrations on that game.
“I just think it's going in the wrong direction,” Christie said. “Dan Campbell is mad because the referees made the wrong call in a game a year ago. Then leave that play to (NFL commissioner) Roger Goodell. The Cowboys called that play wrong. It had nothing to do with that. It was a challenge made by the Cowboys. That's what the referee called it.

“The Lions got hurt by that. The Cowboys benefited from that. But now, because of that, they've been able to get through it and peak while, you know, beating hell.” I don't think that's what a professional does, but it's his prerogative and frankly, I think most people think that represents him. ”
The Cowboys are 3-3 on the season, their worst start since 2020. The Lions are 4-1, which puts them on par with any team in the NFC this year.
