Chris Christie isn’t running without a label.

After holding the door open, the former governor declined.

“I believe this needs to be discussed with the American people, but I also believe that if there is no path to victory and my candidacy somehow helps Donald Trump become president,” Christie said. “I’m doing it,” he said. Again, that’s not the way forward. ”

Axios reported:

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has declined to run for president with the centrist political group No Labels, a spokesperson confirmed to Axios on Wednesday.

Why it matters: Mr Christie is the latest high-profile MP to decline to run from the group, which is planning to propose a “unitary ticket” in November.

“I believe this needs to be discussed with the American people, but if there is no path to victory and in some way my candidacy will help Donald Trump become president again, I believe that ‘That’s not the way forward,’ Christie said.

The big picture: As recently as last week, Mr. Christie did not rule out running as a non-label candidate, raising concerns from the two major parties that a third-party ticket could spoil the election. Ta.

Christie said he would not vote for Donald Trump.

ABC reported:

Christie also complained about Trump’s expected rematch with President Joe Biden in the general election.

“In my view, there are two terrible options here,” he told ABC’s “The View” last month.

He said much the same thing in February during a roundtable discussion with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos.

“One thing I can say for sure is that I don’t know what I’ll do in November. But under no circumstances will I vote for Donald Trump,” he said at the time.
