Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie criticized Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' dismissal of the drone activity, saying it was absurd to suggest it was not unusual activity.

“Is this some kind of mass hysteria?” ABC News host George Stephanopoulos asked the former governor. The ABC News host also spoke with Mayorkas, who said the public has no reason to be concerned about drones and has not seen any unusual activity.

Dozens of drones have been seen flying across New Jersey over the past few weeks, but officials have not yet determined where the drones came from or who is operating them.

“Here's why, George,” said Christie. “Because the answer the Secretary just gave. They're not answering the question.”

More than 20 days after the incident, the Pentagon still has no answers about the origins of the mysterious New Jersey drone

“To say this isn't unusual is completely wrong. I've lived in New Jersey all my life, and this is the first time I've noticed a drone over my house. And on Friday, I “I was at a restaurant in Monmouth County,” Christie said. “There were times when people at the bar came up to me at night and said, 'Governor Murphy isn't telling me anything.'

Detailing his experience, Christie said he intercepted a drone flying over his home in New Jersey a few days ago.

“The Biden administration and state officials need to be more vocal and let people know exactly what they're doing. This morning's interview was a little bit of a good step, but I think it's too little too late. “When people see something like this, it's a new technology for most people, given the impact of the activity, and they worry about it and are concerned about it,” he added.

Stephanopoulos asked, “So you don't think it's the kind of thing where once people focus on it, they can actually see things that they didn't necessarily pay attention to before?”

Mr Christie said it might be “some” but said people, including himself, were seeing a drone fly over their homes for the first time in their lives.

The former governor said that if he were still governor, “I would want state police to have the authority to shoot down drones and find out why they're doing that, and of course they would.” ” he said. This is to coordinate with the FAA. ”

“What we're going to find out is that they're going to put individuals who act as drone vigilantes and start taking them out. That's not what they want, because now they're going to have commercial and Law enforcement agencies often use them for surveillance and other purposes, but we need to be able to operate in a safe manner, and we cannot do so because they are an important part of society.'' “I haven't,” he added.
