Chris Jones Advocates for Travis Kelce’s Return
This week, Chris Jones expressed a heartfelt wish for Travis Kelce to continue playing for another season with the Chiefs.
After a disappointing loss to the Broncos on Christmas Day, the Chiefs’ season concluded, leaving uncertainty about Kelce’s future.
In response to inquiries about Kelce, Jones said, “I hope that doesn’t happen, dude. We’ve been through a lot together. Travis has been a key part of this offense for years. He’s like a brother to us… I really hope he gets another year. Just one more.” His sentiment reflected the weight of the moment, particularly since Thursday could mark Kelce’s final game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Jones was notably one of the first players on the field to greet Kelce as he left, underscoring their close bond.
At 36 years old, Kelce mentioned that any decision on retirement would come after the season, especially after Patrick Mahomes suffered a significant injury in Week 15.
When asked if he caught his last pass from Mahomes, Kelce described it as a “harsh reality.” He remarked, “I thought, ‘Oh, that’s a bleak view.'” He added in a televised interview, “I think I’ll always have that connection with the old gunslinger from Texas in my backyard, but I also know that day will eventually come. If it’s already happening, I’ve been incredibly fortunate with the success and fun we shared on the field.”
Kelce also reflected on future decisions, stating, “I know when it’s over, it’s over. I still have so much love for this game. If I come back, I’ll be addressing that fire in my heart for what I love.”
