Chris Pratt Almost Adopted the Name “Christo”
Chris Pratt, the star of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” recently revealed a surprising detail about his early career aspirations. During an appearance on the “Happy, Sad, Confused” podcast, he shared that he nearly chose the name “Christo” as his stage name when he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
The podcast’s host, Josh Horowitz, brought up this interesting tidbit, saying, “For those who don’t know, this guy was pretty much ‘Christo’ back in the day.” Pratt confirmed this, reminiscing about the transition he was considering.
“That’s right,” he replied, adding, “It was a passionate moment.” Horowitz then teased that Pratt almost rebranded himself before he even began his acting career, to which Pratt clarified that he was indeed going to go with “Christo.”
Interestingly, the name was a nickname given to him by a coworker at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, where he had worked. “He had a name tag that said Christopher from Bubba Gump,” Pratt explained, recounting a name tag mishap. “But the word ‘PHER’ disappeared, so it was just written as ‘Christo.’ Some people called me Christo for a long time.” He noted that the restaurant had high turnover, leading many new employees to think that was actually his name.
Before he got his big break in Hollywood, Pratt chuckled as he mentioned that he seriously considered that perhaps he might just always be “Christo.” “It’s never too late,” he smiled, suggesting that even at this point in his career, maybe the name switch wouldn’t have been out of the question.
He also touched on how he was discovered while working at Bubba Gump, when actress Rae Dawn Chong spotted him and encouraged him to take acting more seriously. That was a pivotal moment that sparked his decision to relocate to L.A.
Today, Pratt is a well-known figure in Hollywood, often humorously grouped with other actors named Chris, like Hemsworth, Evans, and Pine. Interestingly, though, Pratt has mentioned in previous interviews that his friends rarely call him Chris anymore; he’s more often addressed as “Pratt” or even “CP.” He comically recounted how it feels odd when someone calls him by his full first name.
