Chris Pratt States His Purpose is to Guide Others to Jesus: ‘I Want to Shine a Light’

In a recent interview, actor Chris Pratt spoke about his Christian faith and how he feels compelled to share it with others. Known for his roles in Jurassic World and The Lego Movie, Pratt frequently discusses his beliefs on social media and collaborates with the Hallow prayer and meditation app. He expressed in an article for Relevant Magazine that he isn’t shy about discussing his faith in public.

Pratt mentioned, “I’m trying to be like a light.” Referencing Matthew 5:14, he emphasized his belief that he can’t hide his faith and feels a responsibility to use his platform for this purpose. He shared that he’s had encounters with fans who appreciate his openness, sometimes saying, “That’s really cool to say.” He reflected on the notion that some people might see his posts as a sign they’ve been hoping for, drawing a parallel to the biblical parable about a shepherd seeking out one lost sheep.

He remarked, “I love the idea that all of this is orchestrated to help people bring God into their lives,” noting that even if he were to stop working in Hollywood, he would find fulfillment in the spiritual influence he might have had. This gives him a deep sense of satisfaction.

Pratt has not only featured in major film franchises but has also lent his voice to popular animated characters, including in the Super Mario Bros. movie and an upcoming Garfield film.

During the Relevant Podcast, which is part of a larger interview to be published by Relevant Magazine, Pratt mentioned that he usually ignores criticism he encounters online, choosing instead to rely on biblical wisdom. Citing Proverbs 26:20, he noted how easy it is for people to drift toward negativity and moral judgment. He seems aware of the manipulative nature of social media, noting that it often grabs our attention in ways that play to our biases.

Pratt suggested a unique approach to dealing with online criticism: he waits 36 hours before reacting, allowing time for sentiment to settle. If the issue persists, he might wait another 36 hours, repeating the cycle. Most issues, he believes, fade away within a few weeks. If not, it’s better to detach from the negativity altogether.
