Christie spars with 'The View' hosts over election: ‘I don’t have to vote’

Former Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie debated “The View” hosts on Friday about who he’ll vote for in the next election, saying neither former President Trump nor President Biden have his backing.

“We know you’re not voting for Trump. Are you going to vote for the Democrat?” host Ana Navarro asked the former New Jersey governor.

“Right now, I’m not voting either way,” Christie said. He told the host of “The View” He replied, “I can’t. I can’t. This guy is completely mentally not up to the task.”

He was cut off by several hosts.

“But you have to vote!” Joy Behar said.

Christie fired back, saying he would “vote against the nominee” but “didn’t have to vote.”

“You can’t let your vote go to waste,” Sunny Hostin responded.

Christie faced off against Trump in the Republican primary and, although he dropped out of the race in January, is the only candidate who has remained critical of Trump’s campaign.

Christie said he would wait to see what Democrats do with their nominee before making a final decision, given ongoing concerns about whether Biden could beat Trump in the election and serve another four years if re-elected.

Navarro asked Christie whether he thought it was weird to tell Democrats to get rid of a candidate if he didn’t intend to vote for any of them.

“Wait a second. You just asked me who I’m voting for. Biden is the nominee. Let’s see what the Democrats do,” he replied.

He added that he would be open to considering voting for “anyone who presents themselves as someone who will make our country better.” He said he was “unencouraged” by Vice President Kamala Harris’ performance “so far.”

Democrats in Congress are increasingly calling for Biden to step aside and allow someone else to choose a candidate to face Trump in November. Harris is seen as the leading candidate to replace Biden, but questions remain about who she would choose as her running mate if necessary.

“But … to answer the question directly, I think they’re going to rule out Biden, and I think Harris is the most likely candidate, and I think she’s going to have to pick a moderate Democratic governor,” Christie said, adding that Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro might be that candidate.
