“It’s OK. Has any of the pressure been taken off of you guys? It’s OK,” Applegate said.
“Let’s address this issue,” said Sigler, who himself struggles with multiple sclerosis.
“We’re going to address it,” Applegate said. “I was just talking about the dark things that I was thinking and feeling.”
“It’s a safe space to let those things out,” she continued, “because when you keep something inside you feel like it has power, and I think the shame that a lot of people feel when they have mental health issues is what makes them call it a problem.”
“I hate that,” the actress added. “It’s not a mental issue. It’s not a problem. It’s a moment. It’s a thought. It’s a feeling. And when people are afraid to say what they’re really feeling and they keep it to themselves, we give it immense power.”

“When we make a big fuss about this, it makes other people think, ‘Oh crap, I can’t talk about this,’ and I’m not comfortable with that,” she said. “It’s important to be able to say these things, and I’m not sitting here on suicide watch, OK? I’m not, and never have been.”
“When you’re diagnosed with MS or any chronic illness that takes away from who you are, I don’t think anybody can say, ‘This is amazing,'” she continued. “You know what? There are moments when you’re like, ‘This is exhausting and I don’t want to do this,’ but you do it. And having friends like you and all my beautiful friends saying this out loud releases the pressure in the balloon.”
Applegate announced her diagnosis on X (formerly Twitter) in 2021.

“It’s been a strange journey, but I’ve had so much support from people I know who have the same illness,” Applegate continued. “It’s been a tough road, but as we all know, the road continues — unless someone stops it.”
In another post, she added: “As one of my friends with MS said, ‘We wake up and do what we’re told to do,’ and that’s what I do.”
In her first extended, in-person interview since learning of her illness, Applegate opened up about the “hell” she’s been living through.
