Former “Meet the Press” moderator and NBC analyst Chuck Todd criticized former President Biden for what he perceived as a self-centered approach to politics, rather than focusing on the Democratic Party’s interests.
While appearing on News Nation’s “Balance” on Thursday, Todd remarked, “If you’re really committed to your party, you’d prioritize its wellbeing over your own.” He further elaborated that Biden seemed more concerned with his image than with the party’s success. Todd mentioned that many within the party feel targeted personally by criticisms and books, and he believes that their appearances to defend themselves are counterproductive.
On the same day, Biden joined former First Lady Jill Biden on ABC’s The View, addressing concerns about his mental state as his presidency wore on. He defended his choice to run for reelection, stating, “I withdrew my candidacy to avoid splitting the Democratic vote,” while also acknowledging that his wife had expressed concerns about his performance and mental clarity.
These remarks come at a time when numerous Democrats are expressing hesitance about Biden stepping into the limelight again. Todd noted, “It’s as if they’re actively working against Biden right now,” questioning the timing of the criticism compared to a year prior.
