Authorities have identified at least four individuals involved in a violent altercation that occurred in downtown Cincinnati, according to police sources.
The incident happened Friday night between Elm Street and Force Street, and video footage of the brawl has rapidly spread on social media.
In the videos, two people can be seen attacking a man who was wearing a white t-shirt. He was kicked multiple times while he lay on the ground, though he did manage to get back on his feet later.
There was also a woman who appeared to be unconscious in the street after being struck. Thankfully, she was able to find assistance and regained consciousness shortly after.
Police sources indicated that there are still around eight more individuals they are trying to identify. The exact cause of the fight remains unclear. Authorities said that two people suffered serious injuries during the melee.
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Tegge expressed her shock regarding the brawl. She described the actions of those involved as cruel and completely unacceptable. Tegge emphasized that the police are determined to identify everyone responsible for the violence. She noted that this situation arose from a sudden confrontation following a verbal dispute.
A representative from the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights division stated that they will closely monitor how local authorities respond to such incidents.
