Incident at New York Fair Involves Circus Performer

A circus performer was airlifted to a hospital after an arrow missed its target and struck a colleague during a performance in New York, as reported by authorities.

The event took place around 9:30 p.m. on a Friday night while Edwin Cuervo Rangel, aged 38, and his wife, Ana Daza Tavera, 42, were performing at the Orange County Fair in Wallkill.

News 12 indicates that the couple is married and both hail from Wisconsin. During their act, Daza Tavera shot an arrow aimed at Cuervo Rangel’s foam target but, unfortunately, it hit him instead.

According to police, the arrow caused an injury to Cuervo Rangel’s neck. He was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center, where his condition is reported to be stable.

The ringmaster for Circus Murcia confirmed the incident, noting that Rangel was indeed struck in the neck.

“Last night, unfortunately, when she shot the crossbow, it got stuck in his neck,” said Benjamin Jackson, the ringmaster, while speaking to News 12.

In a positive turn, Jackson added that, “the good news is she caught him right at the corner of his neck. There was no blood or anything.” It appears Cuervo Rangel is on track for a full recovery, according to Circus Murcia’s owner, Alexander Murcia.

Murcia expressed gratitude toward the first responders and medical team for their quick action. “He will always be in our thoughts as he recovers,” he added.

The police are currently investigating the incident further.

The Orange County Fair is scheduled to open on Thursday and will run daily until August 2. Circus Murcia will be performing for the first time this year, featuring stunning acrobatics and extraordinary aerial acts, which promise to deliver a memorable experience for fairgoers.
