The top way to earn American AAdvantage loyalty points through credit card purchases has been extended until the end of 2026. This is definitely good news for many…
The best way to earn American Loyalty Points with your credit card
Typically, the American AAdvantage loyalty points program offers 1 loyalty point for every dollar spent using your U.S. co-branded card. But there’s one card that stands out as an exception—it’s the Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard®. This co-branded business card from Citi and American Airlines has a unique policy regarding authorized users. Here, it’s actually the authorized users, not the primary cardholder, who tend to earn loyalty points based on their spending. That’s not something you usually see with small business cards.
The interesting part is that there are targeted promotions which can result in earning double points for a limited time. For eligible users (I’ll get into that later), both the primary cardholder and the authorized user can accumulate loyalty points from their respective spending. It essentially allows you to rack up 2 loyalty points for every $1 spent, just by utilizing different accounts.
Previously, this was available only until December 31, 2025, but now the end date has been pushed back to December 31, 2026.
I mean, personally, this is how I managed to qualify for AAdvantage elite status. Before, earning just 1 loyalty point per dollar made it tough to justify using the co-branded card over others. But when you can potentially qualify earn elite status for two people and benefit from the Loyalty Points Rewards, the numbers suddenly look much more appealing.
Who is eligible for the 2x Loyalty Points opportunity?
This special offer is available only to select Citi® / AAdvantage Business™ World Elite Mastercard® or other eligible Citi® / AAdvantage® Small Business Credit Card members.
Honestly, I’m not completely sure how they determine who gets targeted. Just from what I’ve seen, it seems quite broad, and a lot of people I know who have the card qualify for this offer. Even those who recently got the card tend to receive targeted emails about offers once they’re cardholders.
It’s worth mentioning that we can’t guarantee who will be eligible or not for this benefit, so it’s best to manage expectations. If you apply and don’t qualify, it might be a bit disappointing (but if anyone has insights on eligibility while holding the card, I’d love to know!).
Whatever the case, the Citi AAdvantage Business Card features some helpful perks and has a solid welcome bonus right now, making it a good time to apply. If you think you’re eligible, consider applying—even if the 2x Loyalty Points offer doesn’t pan out (hopefully, it will).
Conclusion
Select cardholders with the Citi AAdvantage Business Card can double the loyalty points they earn through authorized user spending. This limited-time promotion, which was supposed to end in 2025, is now valid until the end of 2026. Personally, I’m really glad this feature has been extended for another year.
So, are you planning to take advantage of this loyalty points double dip opportunity?
