‘Civil War’ Final Trailer Is More Than Enough To Make You Perpetually Fear America’s Future

The final trailer for “Civil War” was released by A24 on Wednesday, and it will leave you forever afraid of America’s demise.

When the first trailer for the upcoming all-star movie Civil War was released, my wonderful colleague Andrew Powell called it “fascinating, both as an American and as a Floridian.” The story is set in a US civil war in which 19 states secede from the Union, form three different alliances, and then attempt to kill each other in a mad scramble for power over the fallen states.

The sequel’s trailer made us worry that Hollywood would spew left-field ridicule throughout this would-be blockbuster. Now, final trailer I feel like we need to be more concerned about stupid citizens and residents trying to recreate this for fun ahead of the 2024 election in our hands.

Of all the scenarios in which the American ideal could be wiped from the face of the earth, war is perhaps the most terrifying. (Related: No, what kind of propaganda is Netflix pushing with ‘Turning Point: Bombs and the Cold War’?)

“As soon as D.C. falls, they’ll turn on each other,” one of the cast members (I think Jesse Plemons) says in voiceover as the district is blown to smithereens. Do you think you could survive in America without GPS, electricity, supermarkets, Big Pharma, reality TV, and McDonald’s? My guess is that most people wouldn’t last a day. And that should make you nervous.

“Civil War” will be released on April 12th.
