Claims that Iranians wish for Vance to handle negotiations are seen as part of a ‘foreign propaganda effort’

When the President makes a choice, your role is to ensure it succeeds.

White House Rejects Reports on Iran Negotiations

The White House has pushed back against media reports that mention unnamed “regional sources” suggesting the Iranian government is interested in leading negotiations due to Vice President J.D. Vance’s “anti-war” position. Officials described these claims as false and as part of a “foreign propaganda effort.”

Recently, CNN reported that Iranian representatives have expressed a preference to continue discussions with Vance rather than with Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff or Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law.

CNN’s Kylie Atwood referenced two anonymous “regional sources,” stating that the Iranian regime is inclined to engage with Vance. One source mentioned, “The understanding is that Mr. Vance intends to end the conflict.”

Similarly, the New York Post reported, citing “sources familiar with the discussions,” that Vance is becoming a significant figure in potential negotiations with Iran, indicating the Iranian government’s interest in working directly with him. They suggested that his skepticism toward foreign military involvement may position him as a primary negotiator, reflecting his growing influence and a belief among Iranian officials that he’s a different type of American negotiator.

One source claimed, “They want to do business with the vice president because he is anti-war.” However, it remains unclear whether the sources are Iranian or if they have outside interests that could complicate U.S.-Iran talks.

Vance has publicly supported Trump regarding the Iranian conflict, affirming that “Iran should not have nuclear weapons” and expressing confidence in Trump’s ability to handle the situation without repeating past mistakes in the Middle East.

When asked about speculations of Vance potentially spearheading negotiations, Trump acknowledged Vance’s involvement but emphasized that it is a collective effort. He mentioned, “JD is involved, Marco is involved, Jared Kushner is involved… And I’m involved.”

In response to assertions that Iran wished for Vance to be the lead negotiator, a White House official told reporters, “These stories are completely false.” They pointed out that the narrative appears to come from anonymous sources and seems designed to undermine the administration.

Vince Collanese, editor at Daily Caller, remarked on social media that CNN’s article reflects “foreign propaganda.” He criticized the claims that Iran is particularly interested in dealing with Vance, calling it implausible.

Republican strategist Andrew Slavian echoed these concerns, suggesting that CNN has been drawn into a coordinated narrative intended to disparage Trump and his team.

In summarizing the article’s key points, Caitlin Doornbos from the New York Post suggested that while there may be disagreements with Vance’s approach, it doesn’t necessarily mean Iran would act differently under his guidance.

She also mentioned that a U.S. official involved in the discussions expressed doubts about Kushner and Witkoff’s understanding of Iran’s proposals during earlier negotiations leading up to the bombing.
