Claire Foy Discusses Health Struggles with Stomach Worms
Claire Foy, known for her role in “The Crown,” recently opened up about her unexpected battle with stomach worms that lasted around five years.
During an episode of the podcast “Table Manners with Jesse and Lenny Ware,” Foy shared that she might have picked up the parasite during a trip to Morocco. She recalled a troubling experience: “I kept losing weight, but I didn’t know what was happening. I thought, ‘It’s eating everything.’ I was always so hungry.” It sounds quite alarming, doesn’t it?
When asked about the diagnosis, Foy reacted to the idea of blood or stool tests, saying, “Oh, that’s terrible.” This kind of situation, honestly, feels so invasive.
As outlined by the Cleveland Clinic, parasitic infections can be contracted through various means, such as contaminated food or water, and they can lead to a range of symptoms including fatigue and digestive issues.
Foy described learning from her doctor that the parasite may have been in her body for “at least five years.” She shared a pretty unsettling detail: “They travel in pairs. The doctor said it’s terrible, absolutely rank. It’s disgusting.” I can’t imagine the relief she must have felt once it was diagnosed.
To combat the infection, Foy made significant lifestyle changes, including cutting out caffeine. She mentioned how challenging that was, especially since she used to consume around 15 cups of tea and two cups of coffee daily. Even after her treatment, she opted to keep caffeine out of her life—perhaps it felt like a fresh start?
In a related note, “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum Brandi Glanville also believes she contracted a similar parasite during a visit to Morocco in 2023. She experienced severe symptoms, including facial paralysis, which initially were misdiagnosed as stress-related. That sounds just terrifying, to think something like that could be lurking.
Glanville noted feeling something moving in her face after eating contaminated food, which really amplifies the unsettling nature of these infections. “We left food out for hours, some of it meat. Six months after returning, I noticed swelling and other symptoms,” she explained. It’s quite the ordeal they both went through.
