Clearwater Ferry hit by boat near Memorial Causeway in Florida

The first responder in Clearwater, Florida, declared a “major casualty incident” Sunday night after a recreational ferry carrying dozens of passengers was struck by the boat.

Clearwater Police Department said there were more than 40 people on board Clearwater Ferry when he was struck by another boat near Memorial Causeway Bridge.

The exact number of injuries is unknown, but police said all injuries came from ferry passengers. The two were deemed “seriously injured” and were taken to a local hospital by helicopter.

As of 10:30pm local time, first responders have removed all patients and passengers from the ferry.

“A large-scale casualty case has been declared by the fire department due to the number of injuries, all local hospitals have been notified. Multiple trauma alerts have been called.

After it was attacked, police said the ferry took a break at the sandbar south of the bridge.

Details of the boat that escaped after hitting the ferry are not available yet.
