White Sox Fall Short in ALDS Game 3
The Chicago White Sox last celebrated a postseason series at home all the way back in 1906, during the World Series when Jiggs Donahue and George Davis led the South Siders to victory over the Chicago Cubs. Fast forward more than a century, and the White Sox were unable to clinch a spot in the American League Championship Series at home, losing to the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 in Game 3. It’s worth noting that the Guardians haven’t reached the league’s playoffs semifinals since 2005.
Coming into the game with a 2-0 series lead, the White Sox struck first. Catcher Kyle Teel hit a double to right field, bringing home the game’s initial run, which was promising.
In an interesting turn of events, the Guardians achieved something noteworthy by hitting two triples in a postseason game, marking the first time in franchise history for such a feat. They became the first major league team to do so since the Los Angeles Dodgers accomplished it in the 2024 World Series’ Game 1.
Notably, Jo Adell, José Ramírez, Bailey, and Brayan Rocchio each contributed two of the team’s 11 hits, demonstrating a complete turnaround from their lackluster performance in the first two games, where they had only managed three runs and seven hits combined.
The atmosphere at the game was electric, with a crowd of 40,590 present for the franchise’s first home playoff game since 2021, which added to the anticipation. However, as the game progressed, the excitement dwindled for the home fans as the Guardians pulled ahead.
In the aftermath, Parker Messick is expected to take the mound for Cleveland in Game 4 scheduled for Thursday. This season has certainly been a surprise for Chicago, especially after they recorded 102 losses last year, marking a significant turnaround as they looked to build on their four-game winning streak in the playoffs thus far.
