Browns rookie Chedure Sanders feels he hasn’t been given a fair chance at securing the starting quarterback position in Cleveland.
Local radio host Ken Carman disagrees with this sentiment.
“They’re trying everything possible to give him a fair shot,” Carman expressed during his show on 92.3 The Fan. “Whether it’s in the next 30 minutes or the next 30 years, I’ll stand by that till the end.” His conviction seemed genuine as he added, “I’d even tell St. Peter.”
He further elaborated, “They haven’t done anything to undermine Chedure Sanders. It’s important for those who might not be die-hard Browns fans to understand that they aren’t trying to break him down or be unfair to him.”
When Sanders arrived at Browns camp, he was positioned as the fourth quarterback on the roster, certainly a divisive figure in the football world.
His draft selection was quite surprising, especially given that the team picked quarterback Dilongabriel just two rounds earlier.
In the camp, Sanders found himself behind seasoned players Kenny Pickett and Joe Fracoco, while Gabriel advanced to the second spot as Pickett recovered and Sanders practiced with the first-team offense.
Carman argued that those criticizing the opportunities given to Sanders are misjudging the situation.
“How many jerseys has he sold? How many autographs has he signed around Cleveland? What charitable work has he done, maybe due to his father’s influence, particularly during his time in Jackson these past few years?” Carman noted.
The Browns haven’t officially announced the starting quarterback for the upcoming week, but indications suggest that veteran Flaco is likely the frontrunner.
The team is set to kick off the preseason against the Panthers on August 8th, but it’s still unclear how much playing time Sanders will get.
