Republican strategist Scott Jennings said Democrats are “on a tear” after the Supreme Court ruled on Monday to allow former President Donald Trump’s immunity appeal.
The Supreme Court ruled Monday that Trump enjoys “official office” immunity in a case stemming from an indictment obtained by special counsel Jack Smith over Trump’s 6-3 2020 presidential campaign. decision Written by Chief Justice John Roberts, Jennings said the former president has been on a “winning streak” since a Manhattan jury of seven men and five women convicted Trump on May 30 of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. “I’ve been thinking about the last 30 or 35 days or so. I don’t think any presidential candidate in modern history has had the good fortune that Donald Trump has,” Jennings said. “I mean, from the moment he was convicted in a case that united the right broadly in New York and he got so much money, to Biden’s collapse in the debate last week, and then the Supreme Court’s decision today, we know that he’s not going to be in court until November when the case is decided in New York.”
Since Trump’s conviction, his presidential campaign has raised more than $140 million. And the Supreme Court ruled Friday, the day after President Joe Biden’s terrible performance in the CNN debate with Trump, that federal prosecutors had overreached the obstruction laws Smith used to prosecute Trump.
“He’s in a fantastically fortunate position,” Jennings continued. “Democrats were hoping that June would completely change the trajectory of the campaign, and it did. Now they’re in a tailspin and they have no idea how to get out of it. He’s on an incredible winning streak right now, and 30 days after his conviction, his campaign is in a much better place than it was before.”
President Joe Biden is currently trailing President Trump by 1.9 percentage points in national head-to-head races. according to RealClearPolling polling average shows Trump leading Growing Adding independent candidates Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Green Party candidate Jill Stein brings the total to 2.9%.
