On Friday's episode of HBO's “Real Time,” host Bill Maher noted that CNN host and chief political correspondent Dana Bash “flatly called out” 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris on fracking in an interview Thursday, questioning, “Why can't they just say, 'Oh, you know, I was wrong, I was talking to the wrong person?'”
Maher said, “I don't understand why they can't. It's just insulting to my intelligence. When she asked, 'When Biden called you and said he wasn't running, what did you say?' My first thought immediately was him. No, he wasn't. On fracking, Dana Bash was totally right. You said, I have the quote, I'll read it to you, you said fracking should be banned. Why can't they say, 'Oh, you know, I was wrong, I was talking to the wrong person?' She has had ridiculous turnovers, with 42 of 47 as VPs.” [on her staff] “When they're gone, we'll just blame them. You know why these idiots are gone? Because they gave us the wrong information about fracking.”
Peter Hamby, the Snapchat host and founding partner of Pac-News, said a more conventional way to explain Harris' flip was to say she had insight into what she could and couldn't do, a sentiment echoed by Maher.
Maher added that Harris is like any other politician and that he's “not upset” about it.
