CNN Host Warns Democrats About 2026 Midterms

This week, CNN’s Harry Enten issued a warning to the Democrats, suggesting that if they don’t alter their course, they might suffer significant losses to Republicans, perhaps the biggest in decades.

Enten, noted for his statistical analysis, advised against relying solely on criticism of the Trump administration regarding Jeffrey Epstein’s documents as a strategy to win back voters.

Despite the controversies surrounding Trump, his support remains surprisingly strong among many voters. That puts Democrats at risk of experiencing a major setback in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections.

He mentioned, “The Democrats are not nearing sealing the deal at this particular point,” highlighting a concerning trend for the party.

During an appearance on CNN, Enten delivered some eye-opening statistics to anchor John Berman, noting that Democrats are trailing behind their performance in both 2006 and 2018 in terms of general Congressional votes.

In a comparative analysis, it was revealed that the margin for Democrats diminished significantly from a +7 point lead in July 2005 to just +2 points in July 2025.

“Donald Trump may not be the most popular figure, but Democrats are not making the headway they need at this moment,” Enten remarked to a colleague.

As the midterm race progresses, the situation seems to have worsened for the Democrats based on various metrics.

When looking at previous midterm elections during Republican presidencies, CNN’s data indicated that Democrats enjoyed a +7 advantage in 2005 and a striking +33 lead in 2017. During those years, they secured notable victories—31 seats in 2006 and 41 seats in 2018.

In sharp contrast, Enten pointed out that Republicans are currently ahead by 12 points as we approach the midterm elections in 2026.

“It’s not merely that the general vote is not in favor of Democrats compared to 2017 and 2005. The reality is that Republicans have more opportunities to gain seats,” he emphasized.

Enten concluded with a grim outlook, indicating that the current voting margins do not reflect the kind of wave elections witnessed in 2006 or 2018.

He noted, “At this point in the cycle, Democrats are lagging significantly behind their pace from previous election years.” The implications of these statistics are serious for the Democrats as they look ahead to the presidential election in October 2024.
