CNN promotes Jim Acosta to weekdays, shakes up struggling morning show as ratings issues continue

CNN has reshuffled its struggling lineup, with Jim Acosta moving to weekdays and the New York-based morning production team disbanded.

“CNN This Morning,” the long-troubled brainchild of ousted CEO Chris Licht, will be moving to 5 a.m. ET with current anchors Poppy Harlow and Phil Mattingly on the sidelines. to 7 p.m. Casey Hunt will serve as emcee. CNN has faced serious ratings problems for years. Fox News averaged 1.3 million viewers per day in January, ranking first across basic cable, while CNN averaged 463,000 viewers.

CNN’s most-watched show was “Anderson Cooper 360,” which finished 28th among cable news with just 733,000 total viewers. Despite being CNN’s biggest draw, “AC 360” averaged fewer viewers than his 14 shows on Fox News and his 13 shows on MSNBC.
