Amara Walker, co-anchor of “CNN This Morning Weekend,” announced on Thursday that he would leave the news network in 10 years, citing “changes in our industry.”
“We decided to grab this moment of change in our industry and take a break from television news,” the Emmy Award-winning broadcaster said. I was told at the deadlinewithout further explanation.
Her departure comes just weeks after CNN domestic correspondent Jim Acosta left the network when the 10am slot was pulled from the original airtime.
After officially announcing his exit last Tuesday, Acosta went to Anti-Donald Trump Tilade, urging viewers to “not give up lies” with the final on-air rant.
Walker has a CNN Newsroom pinned with CNN Max and CNN International.
“I'm a mental journalist, but I have other professional passions too. She announced her departure and the timing wasn't suitable for embarking on the next chapter,” she added.
“I have other professional goals that I couldn't pursue considering my full-time commitment to a breaking news TV schedule,” the host continued.
“In my decade at CNN, I was able to work on almost every platform, both as an anchor and correspondent for CNN, CNN International and CNN Max. The most recent Emmy Award winner was cake icing. I felt this was the right time to take this step.”
Walker, alongside his CNN colleagues, won Emmy in coverage of the Israel Hamas War network last year.
She joined the network in 2013 as an anchor for “CNN International” and covered everything from the Atlanta Spa massacre in 2021 to the demonstrations in Hong Kong and the flames that destroyed Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
A CNN spokesman praised the skilled anchor as “a wonderful, deeply respected colleague.”
“In Amara's 10+ years of renowned and award-winning career at CNN, she led numerous fast news stories from her anchor desk and reported from the field at major events across the US. We've seen her I know she will continue to find success in her new pursuits,” the spokesman said.
The successor has not yet been announced to replace Walker at CNN's weekend morning show.
