CNN and The Washington Post Media outlets are facing backlash after publishing misleading headlines that downplayed the assassination attempt at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Footage of Trump being led away by US Secret Service agents, his fist pumping triumphantly in the air, quickly went viral on social media.

Many social media users reacted negatively to both headlines, accusing mainstream media of portraying the situation as less dangerous than it actually was.

Conservative author Ashley St. Clair pointed out that if you only read the headlines, rather than the real-time updates about X, you’re likely to have two very different ideas about what happened.

Finally, around 7:40 p.m. The Washington Post Update the top page Heading The message reads, “Trump is safe after quickly evacuating stage following shooting at rally.”
CNN also eventually updated its report, reporting that “Trump rushed off stage after firing at Pennsylvania rally.”

At least one spectator was killed, as was the gunman, the report said.
Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger told me that Trump was grazed in the shooting but is OK. One spectator was killed and the shooter was killed. Another was in critical condition, prosecutors said.
