CNN’s Acosta Questions if Trump Is ‘Politicizing’ Soldiers Deaths by Visiting Arlington

CNN host Jim Acosta asked on “The Newsroom” Monday whether former President Donald Trump should lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery to mark the third anniversary of the Abbey Gate attack.

Acosta said, “Former President Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery to mark the third anniversary of the bombing that killed 13 soldiers during the Afghanistan withdrawal. Trump, according to his former chief of staff, said that Americans who die in war are ‘idiots’ and ‘losers.’ Trump denies it, but John Kelly acknowledges that Trump said it. He recently said that awarding it to a civilian is ‘worth more than the Medal of Honor.’ You’re a former Army Ranger. Is he politicizing the deaths of soldiers? If he’s going to politicize this, shouldn’t he go to Arlington National Cemetery?”

Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colorado) said, “I also mourn the deaths of 13 service members. Any service member’s death is a tragedy. At the same time, I mourn the deaths of more than 2,400 service members who have died in 20 years of war. And under President Biden’s leadership, we made the difficult decision to actually end, to end our nation’s longest war. It became very clear to me years ago that this war could not be won by military force. As we sit here today, we mourn the deaths of those who lost their lives in service to our country. And at the same time, we are not at war in Afghanistan. And that was the right decision by President Biden.”
