Kate Bedingfield, communications director for President Biden, claimed Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” that former President Donald Trump was “slashed with a machete” while attending the Libertarian National Convention on Saturday.
“Well, I think it’s the opposite. Traditionally you don’t send a candidate to a place where they can be heckled for 30 minutes. He cut his speech short. I mean, he didn’t enjoy it, he didn’t love it,” Bedingfield said.
She continued, “I know the Trump campaign’s pitch was, ‘We’re going into non-traditional places and we’re going to unite the country,’ but this, to me, just shows how worried they are. They’re worried about RFK Jr., they saw that he was getting enough support from Trump in the polls that they felt they needed to send their candidate through the Libertarian Convention. They felt that their candidate was going to be chopped up with a machete, basically, because they were worried about the support that RFK Jr. was getting.”
Bedingfield added, “Let’s not forget, he’s on trial in Manhattan and he’s New York-bound, so he’s in the Bronx. So I think this is more of a tactical decision than a strategic decision.”
