On CNN on Wednesday, network contributor Scott Jennings responded to what some are describing as President-elect Donald Trump's “unexpected” Cabinet appointments.
Jennings said the selection showed President Trump was “not in the mood” to negotiate with Washington, D.C., about who should be in his Cabinet.
“Isn't it fun?” Jennings said. “I mean, his transition is the funniest transition I've ever seen. I was just as surprised as Paula because it was a name I'd never seen before. We had some coverage, I saw a lot of different names, frankly people from the wealthy Washington legal community, on the list. So I'm just as surprised as everyone else.”
“But what I take away from this is this is a president-elect who feels his power. This person, whether it's Gaetz or whoever else we saw today. He's the one who's appointing people to things, and he's feeling his influence, and he's not in the mood to negotiate with the people in Washington, D.C. He's here to accomplish his goals. That's what they want to do, and they hope the Republicans will agree.”
“Now all of these people, whether it's Gates or Hegseth or anyone else, have to get confirmed and go through committee hearings and prove themselves just like anyone else. No. But it's clear that President Trump is decisive and has no interest in picking anything that seems watered down.”
