CNN’s Van Jones says Harris not doing interviews ‘can’t last’: ‘Needs to be as available as possible’

CNN’s Van Jones said Wednesday that VP Harris’ lack of media appearances “cannot last” and that she needs to begin speaking to reporters.

“I’m not upset that she’s not doing 15 interviews a day,” he said, noting that Harris has only been at the top of the Democratic field for just over two weeks, becoming the official nominee on Friday, “but it can’t go on like this. This is very important. And you can’t play favorites. Anyone running for the top job has to be as available as possible.”

Harris has not given any interviews to the media or held a press conference in the nearly two weeks since she became the top candidate.

CNN political commentator Scott Jennings also said a debate between Donald Trump and Harris should be scheduled.

“As far as I know, she has not sat down and spoken with any reporters. She has spoken quite well in front of a teleprompter, but she has refused to answer questions about her time as vice president, her record when she ran for president, her record in the Senate and being the most liberal senator. But at some point, she is going to have to answer questions and the debate stage may be the only place Donald Trump can do that,” Jennings said.

Harris spoke briefly to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, where she and Biden welcomed Americans released from Russia in a major prisoner swap, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, on Tuesday blasted the press and said the media needed to force Harris to answer questions.

“I think you should try harder to get Kamala Harris to answer questions. She’s been the Democratic nominee for 16 days and she has not answered a single decent question from a reporter. The American people deserve to know the people who want to lead them. I think it’s an embarrassment not only to Kamala Harris but increasingly to the media that she is using a sneaky tactic of running away from reporters rather than standing in front of them and answering tough questions about her record and letting the American people know who she is,” Vance told reporters.
