Co-chair of Haley’s Iowa campaign endorses Harris

Dawn Roberts, co-chair of former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley's Iowa campaign, said Friday that she supports Vice President Harris.

in Columns Roberts told the Des Moines Register that she was “at a loss” because both presidential candidates were in or near their 80s. As a lifelong Republican, she chose to support Haley.

Roberts said he would vote for Harris, unlike Haley, who supported former President Trump.

“I was impressed by her statement that she wanted everyone's support. She has demonstrated a willingness to listen to a wide range of opinions to solve problems,” Roberts wrote. “That's why I support Kamala Harris for president.”

Roberts and her late husband, Steve, have long been involved in politics – Steve served as chairman of the Republican State Central Committee and national committeeman for 20 years until his death in late 2020 – while Roberts' own political career dates back to 1974, when she served as Iowa co-chair of Ford's presidential campaign.

Roberts praised Harris for being open to new ideas and people at last month's Democratic National Convention, noting that she brings together a diverse group of people to solve problems, and said he thinks that's a “healthier and smarter way to lead.” He also said the vice president “continues to impress” by rallying the country together in the debates.

“It doesn't matter that she's a woman,” Roberts wrote. “My husband Steve has often wondered why the United States has never had a woman president. I believe the time is now, and that Kamala Harris is the person to lead our country into the future.”
