Following a security breach that allowed hackers to access and extract customer data, the cooperative has issued an apology.
The National Cybersecurity Centre (NCSC) and the National Crime Agency (NCA) are lending their support to the ongoing investigation, according to the company.
A representative from Co-op remarked, “We are facing ongoing, malicious attempts from hackers trying to infiltrate our systems. It’s a complex issue, and we’re working closely with the NCSC and NCA to address it.”
They added, “We’ve put certain measures in place to prevent unauthorized access while aiming to minimize disruption for our members, customers, staff, and partners.
“Recent forensic research indicates that hackers have indeed been able to access data from one of our systems, and this data involves a considerable number of current and former members.
“The information includes personal details, such as names and contact info, but does not encompass passwords, banking or credit card details, nor any product-related information linked to members or cooperative group services.
“We understand the trust our members place in us when sharing their information. Ensuring the security of their data is crucial, and we sincerely regret that this incident has occurred.”
