England Manager Responds to Viagra Questions Ahead of World Cup Match
The England manager faced some challenging inquiries on Saturday, just before an intense Round of 16 match against Mexico.
Thomas Tuchel was questioned about the possibility of his players using Viagra to cope with the high altitude at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca, which sits at over 7,200 feet above sea level. A reporter probed, “Is it true that you guys are considering using Viagra to mitigate the effects of the high altitude? It’s something I’ve heard, so I wanted to confirm that.”
Tuchel, chuckling, responded, “That’s not true; no information or support has reached me on that.”
Later, when veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson was asked about the altitude, he joked, “Well, Viagra helped. Just kidding, just kidding.”
There’s a prevailing belief that England may struggle on Sunday against Mexico, especially since they’ll be playing away and must contend with the altitude. The Three Lions are looking for their first World Cup title since 1966. However, according to DraftKings early Sunday morning, England was favored at -125, with Mexico at +100.
As the match approaches, England has additional concerns regarding security, as Tuchel’s squad will not be traveling from their base in Kansas City to Mexico City until Friday. They reportedly felt more secure with the safety protocols in place back home.
In their recent Round of 32 match, England faced DR Congo, which posed a significant challenge by scoring early. However, Harry Kane’s goals late in the match secured a comeback victory in Atlanta.
The winner of the England vs. Mexico match will advance to face the victor between Brazil and Norway in the quarter-finals scheduled for Miami on Saturday.
