Carmen Bricillo’s Future with the Giants

Carmen Bricillo recently referenced “The Godfather,” but the New York Giants may not need to make him an irresistible offer to keep him on as the offensive line coach.

Fans are increasingly rallying for Bricillo to remain part of the coaching staff. This season, the offense is performing at a level not seen in over a decade—currently ranked 12th by Pro Football Focus.

“It’s an honor. You just want to do well,” Bricillo remarked ahead of Friday’s practice. “This is a results-oriented business, and you know that going in,” he said, echoing lines from Hyman Roth in “The Godfather II.” He added, “I’m happy to be the owner, general manager, and head coach. If they want me here, they’ll bring me.”

Bricillo stated that he is under contract through 2026. Interestingly, this situation likely holds for much of the coaching staff that was put together under the now-fired head coach Brian Daboll.

“I was just chatting with one of the players. No matter what, we’ll still be involved in football somehow,” Bricillo said. “Whether it’s here with the Giants or somewhere else.”

Quarterbacks coach Shea Tierney, a close ally of Daboll, expressed that if he were not brought back, he wouldn’t feel cheated in developing rookie Jackson Dart, despite the challenges that come with identifying a franchise quarterback.

“You do try to put your future on the back burner and then come Monday, you just wait and see,” Tierney mentioned. Regardless of his own situation, he wishes everyone well. “It was an incredible experience to build a system from the ground up with a new team member. I have to remind myself that I can’t overlook this part.”

The position coach is currently advised to take a break while there’s an ongoing investigation into the coaching staff.

Defensive line coach Andre Patterson clearly stated, “I’ve been in this league long enough to know that I’m okay.” He indicated that if he moves to a different team, support will still be there. However, he also recognized that changes could impact how he sees the players he currently works with.

In terms of injuries, the Giants have ruled out several players for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys, including CB Cordale Flott, S Jevon Holland, TE Theo Johnson, OT Evan Neal, WR Wan Dale Robinson, and DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches. What’s noteworthy is that Flott, Neal, Robinson, and Nunez-Roches are approaching free agency.

WR Jarrin Hyatt is listed as questionable due to illness, while DT Dexter Lawrence, who didn’t practice, is expected to play. LB Abdul Carter has moved to limited participation and is also likely to play.

The Giants opted not to bring back running back Josh Ezeudu until after the three-week return-to-practice deadline had passed. Ezeudu had to sit out the season due to a calf strain late in the preseason but had recently returned to practice.

“He really impressed during practice,” interim head coach Mike Kafka noted. “Ultimately, it boiled down to numbers. With our roster situation and some injuries, we had to prioritize certain position groups over others.”
